Robin Lee Architecture were commissioned by Crispin Kelly’s Baylight to develop 1 Mapleton Crescent and 88 Garratt Lane in south west London. The site consisted of an existing three-storey former paint factory of concrete framed construction, with a rooftop development by Sergison Bates Architects completed in 2004. The development has created 12,500Ft2 of residential space across 20no. apartment units.
New partitions to create loose subdivisions of space within each apartment were carefully placed to allow the existing insitu concrete frame construction to be articulated as a foreground within the internal environments. Similarly shallow arched precast units forming floor subdivisions were exposed throughout. The floor plane was treated homogenously in industrial parquet blocks made from European Oak linking all interior spaces. External walls are variously finished in exposed brickwork and untreated plaster.
